Karen Knudsen is Director of External Affairs at the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. The East-West Center promotes better relations and understanding among the peoples and nations of the United States, Asia and the Pacific through cooperative research, education and training. Spanning nearly 30 years, Ms. Knudsen has worked in politics, public diplomacy, and communications in a multi-ethnic and international environment. She has widely traveled throughout the Asia-Pacific region including multiple trips to Burma/Myanmar. Concurrent with her position at the East-West Center, Ms. Knudsen recently completed 20 years of service as an elected member of the Hawaii State Board of Education including two terms as Chairman of the Board. She holds a Masters degree in Pacific Islands Studies from the University of Hawaii.
